Cellar Favorite: 2015 Alain Voge Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes

BY BILLY NORRIS | NOVEMBER 2, 2026

Alain Voge’s 2015 Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes offers a compelling juxtaposition of dark, sweet, solar-vintage fruit and the savory, feral nuance that an 11-year-old Syrah from the Northern Rhône can so ably deliver. Plush, concentrated and rounded around the edges, the 2015 boasts remarkable freshness and lift for all its brooding, gamey smokiness. Layers of bramble, _garrigue_, cocoa powder, iron filings and menthol slink from the glass, carried across the palate by sweet, resolved tannins that provide ample framing. The 2015 was vinified with a small proportion of whole clusters and aged in a combination of demi-muids and standard barriques for an average of 24 months. There’s a certain flashiness and chocolatey richness still present here, but the old vines confer enough finesse and complexity to balance it all out. The 2015 is nearing peak, but it will likely hold for at least the next ten years. 94/Drink 2026-2036.
