2005 Thierry Allemand Cornas Chaillot

BY ANTONIO GALLONI | MARCH 12, 2018

Thierry Allemand’s 2005 Cornas Chaillot is fabulous. Bold and pungent at the outset, with tons of whole cluster nuance, the 2005s offer striking interplay of bold, racy fruit and more floral/savory layers that are woven into the wine’s fabric. Sweet red/purplish berry fruit, lavender, sage, white pepper and rose petal all develop in the glass, but it is the wine’s boldness and overall intensity that I am most drawn to. Impossible to put down, the 2005 is gorgeous to drink today, but it also has more than enough density to develop beautifully for another decade-plus. This is a fabulous expression of Syrah as grown in Cornas. I loved it. 94/Drink: 2018-2028
