1995 Domaine J.L. Chave L’Hermitage Blanc

BY NEAL MARIN | JULY 22, 2024

I don’t drink enough white Rhône wines. But when I do, it might as well be amongst the very best. The 1995 L’Hermitage Blanc from Domaine J.L. Chave is absolutely exquisite. It is slightly burnished in color and has an oily texture. The bouquet is textbook mature white Hermitage, with seductive aromas of linseed oil, white peach, yellow plum, honeysuckle, spice and grilled walnuts. It shows excellent delineation and seems to get better and better in the glass. The palate does not disappoint. The 1995 is supremely well-balanced, with a keen line of acidity that slices effortlessly through the slightly viscous texture and a finish that coats the mouth. This is everything you could wish for in a white Rhône at the peak of its power. It will cruise at altitude for a few years more. 97/Drink 2024-2050.
