Cellar Favorite: 1997 Domaine François Raveneau Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru

BY ANTONIO GALLONI | JANUARY 5, 2026

There aren’t too many things I enjoy more than a mature bottle of Raveneau Chablis. When I saw the 1997 Montée de Tonnerre on the list at the Chablis Wine Not wine bar in the center of town, I knew I had to have it. Golden in hue but age-appropriate, the 1997 is a total delight. Exotic floral and tropical overtones lead into candied apricot, passion fruit, slate, crushed rocks, acacia and light honeyed tones. The 1997 is quite rich and oily but not at all heavy. Despite its age and obvious richness, it preserves plenty of the minerality that is such a Raveneau signature. Approaching its thirtieth birthday, the 1997 is in magnificent form today. My only wish is that I could have spent more time with it. Magical. 95/2025-2032.
